Insurance data migrations and integrations

A policy export can contain the right number of rows and still lose the link between an endorsement and its document. Northline develops insurance data migrations and application connections with the record relationships included in the scope.

Source informationRelationship the receiving system needs
Policy referenceThe policy identity, including any source-system reference used to distinguish it.
Policy termThe term boundary and its relationship to the policy.
EndorsementThe relevant term and effective date of the change.
Risk locationThe location identity, term and changes affecting it.
DocumentThe policy, term, endorsement, location or claim reference it belongs to.

The source may store these in separate exports or identify them in different ways. The mapping must explain how the destination finds the related record. Matching on a display name alone can attach information to the wrong term or location.

Missing and unmatched references

An attachment without a recognized term reference needs an explicit treatment. So does a repeated location reference or a date that the source cannot supply. These cases belong in the migration specification; an import should not quietly assign a convenient value and erase the uncertainty.

Example found in a sourceDecision to agree before import
File with a policy reference but no termWhich source information can establish the term, or how the unresolved file will be retained.
Two rows using the same location referenceWhether they describe versions of one location or different locations requiring separate identities.
Effective date missing from an endorsementWhich record can supply it, or how the missing value will be represented.
Corrected attachment with a new file nameHow the replacement relationship will be preserved.

These are constructed examples of mapping questions, not records from a client migration. The treatment depends on the source, the destination and the rules supplied by the insurance business.

Checking the migrated records

Counts show whether a group of records has arrived. They do not establish whether a document opens against the correct endorsement or whether a renewed policy still has its earlier term. Representative histories need to be followed through the destination application.

  • A policy with both an expiring and a renewed term.
  • A location added after the term began.
  • An endorsement with a corrected document received later.
  • A claim attachment linked to its claim and relevant policy information.

The sample is selected for the actual source and scope. Check the links and date labels visible to a user, not only the values present in an import table.

Connecting insurance applications

A renewal submission, an issued policy and a policy document are different objects. The receiving application needs to know which it is getting, which term it concerns and how to find its related records. The import timestamp is separate from the effective date of the information imported.

For an ongoing exchange, we specify the information passed, its identifiers and the behavior expected when the source changes. Maintenance can cover defects, changes in connected systems and agreed improvements. Testing and deployment arrangements are set for the applications concerned.
